The Training Ground offers an intensive, full-time program for serious dancers preparing for careers in the arts. Through technique classes, creative exploration, and exposure to San Francisco’s vibrant arts community, the program bridges the gap between advanced training and the professional world.

At The Training Ground, failure isn't something to fear — it’s part of the process. We cultivate a space where dancers can embrace risks, fall forward, and grow through challenge.

Get comfortable with the uncomfortable. That’s where transformation happens.

The Training Ground is a full-time, immersive dance training program for emerging artists ready to commit deeply to their growth, both as dancers and as creators.

With a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (typically 9am–3pm), the program offers the structure and focus needed to train rigorously, investigate movement, and prepare for the realities of a professional dance career. Participants engage in daily technique, creative exploration, and embodied research within a supportive, process-driven environment.

Dancers are guided by seasoned faculty with extensive experience in professional performance and dance education, including many who have taught extensively within the LINES Ballet education programs. Training is enriched by workshops and exchanges that include local companies and creators such as SFDanceworks, Robert Moses’ KIN Dance Company and Ballet22, offering insight into San Francisco’s dynamic dance ecosystem.

Throughout the program, dancers work with visiting guest artists from across the country, gaining exposure to diverse artistic practices and perspectives. Students also have structured opportunities to choreograph and share original work, developing their creative voice alongside their technical training.

The experience is supplemented by weekly GYROTONIC® classes at San Francisco GYROTONIC® and a lecture-based course, Critical Perspectives in Dance at our SF Public Library, which situates movement within broader cultural, historical, and social contexts.

Located in San Francisco, The Training Ground is a place to grow with intention, build community, and step more fully into your future as an artist.

who should apply

“Karah Abiog’s leadership has been nothing short of transformative. I’ve witnessed her cultivate a culture of care, rigor, and deep artistic inquiry — shaping not only dancers, but future choreographers and educators. Her ability to nurture both individual growth and collective excellence has profoundly impacted my own creative evolution. The environment she’s built consistently draws top talent, and it’s clear that her next chapter will continue to uplift the field."
